Is there a time limit to how long a team can run in the field without scoring or going out of bounds?
So from what I know, the NFL doesn't have an equivalent to the shot clock during the play. There's the play clock before the snap, but during play itself, it seems like players can just run around for as long as they like as long as they don't score or go out of bounds.
The play that comes to mind is Kyle Murray's 2 point conversion against the Raiders where he just kept scrambling around til he threw the ball. There are also plenty of games where the play just went on and on even though the clock already hit 0.
I know it's basically impossible for a play to just go on forever since people are chasing you. But I genuinely do not know if there is a limit or not.
