question about joining as a sophomore
Hello all,
I am a rising sophomore at a big state school (out-of-state) and I am really excited about joining AFROTC in the hopes of becoming a pilot. I know its a long shot but it has always been a dream of mine and I really want to fly. I couldn't join freshman year for personal reasons but I am looking to start in the fall.
My main question is: how much of a disadvantage does that put me at, joining as a 250, if I want to both get field training and ultimately pilot school?
I spoke to the AFROTC office here and they said it would be easier if I joined as a 100 and added a fifth year of college to have more time for field training selection and everything. Fortunately I am in a position where this could be an option, though definitely not ideal.
I am aware that it would be a lot of work either way, and I am still very excited about it (even if I don't end up getting a pilot slot).
Thanks in advance for any information!
