I’ve loved everything Mireille Enos has ever done. She has a Tony, Emmy, and Golden Globe nomination. And yet why does this show fail her? Same with Toby Kebbell and Ruby Cruz.
If we started on Margo or Molly or Ed or Ellen in Season three, or Tracy in Season two, we would be exhausted and bored by them! Yet that’s essentially what all the new characters are — it’s as if we picked up with them in their later seasons. (For example, sometimes Wrenn Schmidt barely opens her mouth and I’m sure people would pick her apart for that but we all know now that’s a Margo choice.)
I think about how good Coral Peña turned out to be, and watching again, Aleida seemed to be the only character early on introduced with just trauma trauma trauma, sad sad sad. It’s why she stuck out like a sore thumb and it was annoying to be around her. Turns out that was clearly foreshadowing cause now that’s every character.
Would we like any early character if we didn’t see all the cool things about them before the shit storms began?
I’m half way out the door on this show but I really feel for all who have to say this clunky dialogue and trod around exhausting plots.
