Is Octavia overprotected, or overprioritized by the fandom? Or are her needs so oversimplified that it ignores the reality of her situation and those around her even if he wishes do get fulfilled?
Most will say that her needs revolve around Stolas not doing what she wants, or him neglecting her needs when he needs her the most, but even then it feels like that her dad suddenly doing the right thing for her won't fix the overarching issues that plague her character; that just because he changes for her doesn't mean the other members of her life, her mom and uncle are going to change for her benefit. And yes, her mom and uncle are a problem too, one that she's either unaware of or downplays, depending on your point of view.
However, I think the issue is when talking about Octavia she's not really talked about, not everything about her. They only focus on the stuff that makes her feel sad, or anything that won't paint her in a positive light. This does not mean she's a bad character but it feels like her bad character traits, her selfishness, unawareness, and lack of being proactive in her own life can be a problem. Sure she's a teen character and her archetype is usually built around that but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be talked about or downplayed simply because we feel bad for her. If not handled carefully, it could turn sympathy into pity and that's not really a good thing. Octavia's' character deserves better than that but putting on the kitty gloves on her character isn't going to help.
