I’m planning to get a British Shorthair and could really use some perspective.
Right now I have two options:
Option 1:
A 1-year-old male, already neutered, and has fathered a litter. I like the idea because he’s past the tiny-kitten stage and might be calmer and more predictable.
Option 2:
Two kittens (currently ~6 weeks old). I could take both when they are 14 weeks old. Part of me likes the idea of raising them from the start and shaping their behavior, but I’m worried it might be a lot more work.
My concerns:
Is raising two kittens way more work than adopting one adult?
Will a 1-year-old have a harder time adjusting to a new home?
Am I overestimating how “easy” an adult cat is vs how “difficult” kittens are?
I’m trying to balance effort, bonding, and what’s best for the cat(s) long-term.
Would really appreciate hearing from people who’ve been in a similar situation—what would you choose and why?
