BD-1
I’ve seen a number of posts here discussing potential outcomes for the third Jedi game, and I’d like to give my two cents on the end of this saga. Survivor obviously has a much darker tone than Fallen Order. Our boy Cal struggled with pain, anger, loss, and the inevitability of the “unworthy machine of an Empire.” Killing Bode weighed so heavily on his soul, to an extent that the other characters could hardly console him during the funeral scene.
I’m curious if the third game will lean into that darkness even more. Cal could die or turn to the dark side, Merrin could die or turn her back on Cal, Kata’s story could go any which way…but there’s one character whose fate I’m truly concerned for.
BD-1
That little puppy of a droid has been at Cal’s side since day 1. BD has saved Cal’s life countless times, both literally and figuratively. He’s seen so much strife, struggle, and conflict, and still manages to belt out a happy little chirp every other scene. It’s mind-boggling to me that a literal robot is the heart and soul of this franchise, but Respawn pulled it off.
The darkest timeline would be if they decided to twist the knife.
Killing off Cal or Merrin would hurt, of course, but those possibilities have been discussed already. Cal’s death is almost expected at this point.
Killing off BD-1 would arguably be the most devastating scenario. As such, I’m nervous that it’s the most likely scenario.
It could be the push for Cal to surrender to the dark side. It could be the final straw to break the crew apart. It could be the emotional climax of the tragedy that is the Jedi trilogy.
I don’t know what the final game has in store, but I’m already mentally preparing myself for the worst Respawn could do. In my opinion, that’s the death of BD-1. Normally I’d say that you never kill off the pet or mascot, but John Wick has proven me beyond wrong on that front.
Apologies for the rant, apparently I have stronger feelings on this than I thought. Yall steel yourselves for the end of Cal’s story, something tells me it’s going to be…difficult.
