Does not having a legal name change lessen/impact your chances for surgery?

What the title says. If I haven’t legally changed my name does it prevent the GIC and other doctors from letting me get top surgery?

I’ve socially transitioned in other ways, such as using preferred name at work and on anything that doesn’t require it legally. But I’m an international person (from the states) who is living here on a visa so it’s QUITE difficult for me to legally change my name right now. Even just in the states it’s difficult, and then trying to change it here along with the possibility of my visa messing up is just something I don’t want to risk right now. As well as having to transfer over all my info to a new NHS number.

Just curious what you all have experienced. When I had my initial meeting w the GIC they said it’s flexible but to maybe look into trying to do it? I really don’t want it to impact my ability to get surgery because I don’t think they understand how complicated it would be for me and how big of a risk it is rn in the states as well for trans people.

How long for shared care to get to GPs?

Hiya,

Okay sort of a small rant post (sorry) but also a question.

Just wondering the timeline from gender clinic appt to talk abt HRT -> shared care agreement sent to GP -> GP taking over prescribing hormones.

I’ve already been on HRT previously (from abroad and from my old GP), but now that it’s being done through the GIC they’re taking for-fucking-ever and it’s beyond frustrating. I have explained to them how I’ve previously been off and on with HRT for months (bcus of previous admin and paperwork issues with transferring GPs and my new ones being transphobic) and how it’s having drastic negative effects on me, but it seems like the staff don’t listen or care.

Which is frustrating bcus the doctor I spoke with at Tavistock was super nice and understanding. But I just don’t understand how it is taking nearly a month for them to send some paperwork??

I’ve also of course been notoriously following up and in both the GIC and my GP’s ass about this stuff and last my GP told me they received the shared care but are waiting for more detailed information on dosages? It just feels like how many follow up emails do I have to send just to get hormones…. It’s fucking ridiculous. I hate shared care so much
