One day, in the late 1990s, when I was between Physics classes in Temple Hall at Southwest Missouri State University (Missouri State University), I got bored. So I went down to the basement. I had been down there for errands before, but not just for wandering purposes.

Anyway, when I got down there, there were a couple hundred Styrofoam bowls face down on the floor in rows up against one wall.

Inquisitively, I looked under them, and each of them had a colored dot painted on the inside of the bowl.

Just then, I saw a HUGE centipede. It was a good five inches long, and a sickly pale beige color. It was as wide as one of my fingers, and the legs were over an inch long. The creature resembled a normal house centipede , but it was three times the size! Was it a mutant freak from exposure to the uranium they kept up on the 3rd floor?

What did I do when I saw the massive beast? Why, I trapped it under one of the bowls, and put the bowl back where I found it, of course. Then, I heard a door open to the stairs and people coming in, so I hid behind the boiler.

There was a big class coming into the basement. I don't know what class it was. The students ran to the bowls and started looking under them. I assume they were keeping track of which colors there were and how many of each.

A girl picked up the bowl which had the centipede under it and she screamed in terror. I don't mean a little yelp of fright, I mean she full on screamed like an ax wielding murderer was after her. Then she fell back on the floor and sat there crying on to her friend's shoulder.

The centipede was still under the bowl, and so while some people ran over to look and see what happened to the girl, other people looked under it and let out little screams.

I took the moment of confusion to escape down the hall. That poor girl might still be in therapy.
