Thanks in advance for the advice!
The complex my cat (~3.5yo former dumpster baby) and I live in has a number of stray cats that we’ll see on a semi regular basis. My girl has varying responses to seeing them outside, from quiet observing, to… big mad, haha! One of the strays is a black female that out of all the cats, we see most often. Apart from some initial shyness, she’s been incredibly sweet towards me (rolling on her back to show tummy, rubbing up on my leg, etc etc) and when she does come around she and my cat seem to do pretty well interacting through the glass. My girl will sometimes skippy bap against the patio door, but apart from that neither one show any signs of extreme aggression towards each other.
Now… I’m in the process of selling my place and planning a long distance move. With the black cat coming around so often, surprise surprise, I’m considering bringing her with and adding another fur baby to the family. I do also want to be realistic and fair- I know the process of bringing her in, vet checks/spaying if needed, and starting the introduction process could be a lot for both of them, to say nothing about adding in a long distance move. I don’t want to completely traumatize her with all that’s going to be happening around her.
I do want to add as well, if it’s completely unreasonable I do plan on getting the black cat to a no-kill shelter. Even if it can’t be with me, she deserves the chance to have a peaceful life and I want to do what I can to help her get that.
So, cat people of Reddit… what do we think? Is it worth it to try?
