I have finally reached a good place in my career. I am finally making real money- and holy shit I have none left over. I have a large family and I own a horse which eats a lot of money just keeping her boarded and fed. I can’t afford new tack, can’t afford a trailer, can’t afford to put a fence on my own property.

we moved cross country and bought a house a year ago. We didn’t want to downgrade from our pre-Covid, 3% interest house- so we are house poor. Our house payment is still ~25% of our take home. I can’t afford to buy new furniture for the house. I can’t afford DIY landscaping. We cant afford vacations. Thank god we live in a state with free college.

I am budgeting, we make well over average incomes. A trip to Walmart for house hold and pet goods is like ~$600 buying generics. How are people making it right now?
