While looking for furniture on Facebook marketplace, I couldn’t help but notice a multitude of upright pianos in the area being given away for free, presumably from older folks looking to downsize. Many different brands and some are even 100 years old or older. Obviously, there would be a cost to get one moved and tuned, but I imagine it could likely still be a “steal” when compared to going out and purchasing a new one.
I’m curious on y’all’s thoughts regarding whether that seems reasonable or is more likely a fool’s errand.
About me: Recently moved and have plenty of space in the house to fill. One of my kids had a lot of interest in her digital keyboard before it broke and I enjoy tinkering as much as anyone else, though have never done so in a formal way. To be clear - there’s no serious commitment at this time, but nothing breeds interest quite like having something on hand to explore. I’d probably be willing to spend a few hundred to give the kids an opportunity and see if it goes anywhere and even if not, I wouldn’t mind the aesthetics of it and would likely tinker from time to time myself.
