I want to renovate these gates so that I don’t have to replace them. They are in pretty good condition other than the cracks on the top. My plan was to sand them down all over and then fill in the cracks on the top with some wood filler and then paint them in some thick paint to seal them.

I’m quite happy doing the work but was after some advice for what type of wood filler and paint to use. Can anyone advise me? I was just going to paint them black or brown.
