Freaking out, BI-RADS 4b
I'm 42. No family history. I have D, extremely dense breasts. I went for a screening breast ultrasound since its recommended with dense breasts. I've never had a screening ultrasound, although after my first mammogram at 40 I was called back to look closer at what turned out to be a cyst.
Anyway, they came back wanting to look closer 2 spots. I went this morning for the targeted ultrasound and one spot was determined to just be fibroglandular tissue, but the other spot is described as the following and I have to go back for a biopsy:
Overall BI-RADS category: 4B - Suspicious
At 9:00, 8 cm from the nipple; there is a 7 x 8 x 5 mm irregular hypoechoic mass with indistinct margins. It demonstrates intermediate characteristics on elastography images with no internal vascularity on color Doppler ultrasound.
The radiologist tried to be very reassuring that because its new, they have to check it, that it might be a fibroadenoma, that they do lots of biopsies and it turns out fine...but I'm absolutely spiraling now. I go next Wednesday and not sure how I'm going to make it until then.
I know no one can tell me its not something bad until the biopsy is done, but I'm losing my mind in anxiety right now. Anyone have stories of good outcomes while I wait??
