It's just starting to warm up here and buds are just coming out.
I have this roughly 15-20 year old decorative chokecherry tree in the back yard. It has issues with black knot for at least the last 7 years or so, which I ended up trimming every year.
At the point where the limbs separate in a Y pattern about halfway up the tree, there appears to be an older black 'split' mark (at least that's what it looks like) and a newer small split/crack going up on the right limb as seen in the second picture. The 3rd picture is just another angle of the same area.
My question is, should I be worried about this split in terms of this eventually falling down in a strong wind? I'm considering taking this tree out entirely due to the black knot but I'm wondering about if I should be doing this sooner than later.
I'd appreciate any advice you'd have about this.
