I’m ashamed as to what I am about to post as I cannot believe I fell for this shit. My girl and I were looking for a short term rental and found a lease reassignment on marketplace listed for $2400. We got into contact and she told us that the original rent is $3200 a month. The agreement we entered through conversations and texts was that she would pay the leasing office $800 for every month remaining on the lease (3 months) up front and that we would pay the remainder. Upon getting my first bill, it was $3350. $3085 in rent and $165 in her utilities.

In the contract, it does specify that I am liable for all payments once the lease was reassigned. To be frank, looking at it strictly from a contract perspective I have no leg to stand on.

I am wondering if the false marketplace listing and her lying to us about the transaction through phone calls, texts, and in person meetings gives us any potential for legal action. Honestly I deserve it for being so naive and I have accepted it, but the financial loss does hurt and it would bring me joy to not let her get away with it. Let me know what you guys think (besides that I’m a dumbass lmao).
