I am a US math graduate student. I like doing a PhD as it lets me travel a lot, but I wonder if there is a happy medium on how many conferences I attend during the year. I am early on in the program, so I would like to learn more and meet other people, but I fear it is not good to go to many if you are not presenting anything. There are two upcoming ones for instance this summer that interest me, and I am already going to another one for certain. Would my advisor think it is bad if I ask them about too many?
