Australian (M)40, 203cm (6’7) tall. Currently hospitalised due to a spinal cord injury (tentative diagnosis of Cauda Equina Syndrome) and on a very low energy diet (VLED). Weight loss is required so I can receive a MRI for a definitive diagnosis followed by surgery (according to lead Dr). I’ve been here for 3 months and have lost 48kg (105lbs) still have 150kg (330lbs) to go. On Tirzepatide weekly with multivitamins and iron supplements daily. I’m under the care of a Multidisciplinary Team, Neurologist, Endocrinologist, Occupational Therapist, Physio, Psychiatrist, Dietitian, Nursing Unit Manager and Social Worker.
I’m feeling lost as most people I interact with seem to only be interested in weight loss. I’ve been watching transfer tutorials on YouTube and using online resources from various spinal cord injury groups to learn as much as I can about what is happening to me and what to expect. I’m currently bed bound with the exception of shower time (slide transfer from bed to commode) and physiotherapy slide transfer from bed to padded arm chair (core and arm strengthening exercises as well as attempting sit to stands). I have no pain or cold sensation below my navel. I can’t feel my bladder or bowel.
Any insight into how this all works and what I can expect is greatly appreciated.
