Reasonable adjustments while unmedicated
Hi all, I'm looking for some advice on reasonable accommodations at work.
For reference, I was diagnosed a year or two ago and tried a few different medications - the one that worked best was a non stimulant, atomoxetine. I cannot express how much better it made ny life! It helped my sleep (since I was a baby I've struggled with falling asleep and was consistently not sleeping enough), improved concentration, and made it so much easier to start tasks.
However since starting medication my heart rate has increased and not come down. My consultant was not happy about this and recently my doctors have decided to take me off the atomoxetine while they look into it (ECGs, wearable heart monitor etc.)
Suddenly everything is so much harder - it feels even harder than before I even knew I had adhd, and I dont know how I coped with this. Sleeping is awful, I was prescribed a small amount of melatonin but i struggle to wake up on it so dont like taking it, and I cannot concentrate on anything for more than 5 minutes.
I especially dont know how I used to cope at work, though having said that my workload and responsibilities have increased over the past year (probably as I began to perform better, haha) so I dont think that helps.
I desperately need help to manage this period of being unmedicated as I am worried about it affecting my work performance, but I dont know what to ask for, as it feels like I am fundamentally unable to perform in any role (given that my issue is simply that I'm unable to focus.)
Has anyone else had issues like this? What could I ask for support with?
