I got the opportunity to harvest some black locust in a local forest. Since this is the first time I wanted to share my favorites to get some feedback.
I was looking for 15-20cm (6-8") diameter trees, with straight sections and straight grain in the bark. Couldn't find one without having at least some damage or small branches (like on pic 5). How bad is it, if the bark is loose above the section I want to make bows of?
Would you consider all 4 suitable for staves or do you see something that immediately makes it unusable?
Thanks a lot!
