Some buffoon just tried scamming me. Not sure whether the mods will let me share the number here, but it starts with 066 and ends in 09 🙂
(I'm so sorry for typing such a massive message I really tried to keep it short)
So first he went through all the usuals (calls recorded etc) asked how long I've been using TymeBank (🚩), then told me they needed to block my card because of suspicious activity. (🚩)
I asked about it and he just said "they" had tried making a purchase with my card and so he needed to block my account (not card like he first said) but needed to confirm some things first. Red flags everywhere I was already so angry at this point, but I wanted to piss him off.
He then confirmed the first six digits of my card (which are the same for all TymeBank cards) and the first two account cards. He told me he needed to verify some information otherwise my *card* will be blocked (not account.) I asked him to please explain what the purpose of the call was (he was already growing impatient here) and so he repeated the fraud stuff with a few differences in details.
I told him it was odd because I hadn't seen anything on the apps and so he told me I'd receive a message on all activity. I received an SMS from his number saying my *account* had been blocked due to suspicious activity.
Really trying to keep it short, I kept telling him I didn't see anything on the apps, and he kept switching between saying the account is blocked and the card is blocked. He then straight up asked for my card number, and I assume an OTP would have been his next question.
I told him that I wanted everything sent via email, that this was suspicious, and that the information he provided was generic and asked him for my full card number, which he obviouslt couldn't give. He started yelling at me, I called him out for that, and again he said he needed to help me unblock the account.
I again asked about the supposed fraudulent activity and received a second SMS saying a transaction was blocked. I called out the number he used, the questions he asked, and the lack of actual activity and specifics and that my account was fine, joh mense... boi did he flip. He started shouting, threatening, saying he's going to block my account (but supposedly already did) and after a while just hung up.
I reported him to TymeBank, but he's been scamming for at least a year and the amounts reported online are pretty big. I don't know whether anything will ever be done about it.
Please be vigilant, waste their time if you can, piss them off, and don't give them jack.
What really worries me is not only did he have my number and know my bank, but also my name and goodness knows what else.
