I hope this post doesn't end up giving me more proof of it, but this is my FIRST time ever using this app. I'm really getting into a lot of college admissions shit since I think I'm nearing the age where I should start planning ahead for it, so I installed reddit because I realized you could literally get SO MANY personal experiences from people.

So I posted something just about an hour or two ago asking something about whether South Asians can get into Harvard.

Mind you all- I am a very polite person. It is something I quite literally pride myself on. Being nice to others.

So I worded it politely and posted it. Only for almost all the people (with exceptions for a few people) to reply in such rude ways that I'm really starting to think of uninstalling it now for the sake of my mental health.

Some people thought I was insulting Americans and assuming they sucked at Geography simply because I stated that the very small country I come from (often unknown to many people ive talked with in the past) was probably foreign to them.

Others were constantly passive aggressive or just straight up rude in tone. Like, I get that every platform has its own level of toxicity, but in an EDUCATION RELATED COMMUNITY??

So if you're reading this, take this as your reminder to be nice today. It doesn't cost much.

So I'll be vey specific, I'm not just any South Asian. I'm from Sri Lanka, which I doubt any of you have even heard of (you may know it as the country right under India. It's an island).

My major problem here, is that our country has complete different structured schools and all that. So we don't even have things called 'high school' and 'middle school'. It's just primary school and upper school. No in-between names.

And on top of that, we do not even have anything called SAT or ACTs. I'm currently in 9th grade. I hope to somehow study in the medical field and become a neurosurgeon. My grades overall, I'd say are pretty good, but I literally cannot even give you a proper idea because we don't HAVE a system called GPA. It's a complete different system.

I'm willing to do everything I can but I also don't want to waste my time on a dream that simply is impractical, because my life is too short for that.

So please, can someone kindly tell me if it's pointless? And if so, what other schools I should see to? Even if in completely different countries?

Thank you to anyone in advance!
