Birth control considerations

I have no female friends to ask about this so here I go, Reddit community!

I am a mom whose 3 1/2 year old kiddo still occasionally nurses for comfort, so i'm still producing milk. My cholesterol has been borderline high ever since, but my PCP isn't worried as she thinks it's because I'm still producing milk and breastfeeding. (I'm a physically active woman who eats very healthily.)

I've decided to go on birth control and can't decide which one to choose. I'm between the normal triphasal pills or an IUD. My OBGYN is recommending against the former (pills) as it's an increased risk for those who have high cholesterol, but honestly, I'm scared of IUDs. The idea of plastic inserted into my body makes me nervous. (No judgment if you have one, I just can't decide if it's for me or not.)

Does anyone have any thoughts about either type of birth control? Are IUDs no big deal, and I'm just blowing it out of proportion? Thanks for any thoughts and kindness!
