Why does my cat act like he is boneless?

I have a cat who is 1.5yrs old and every time you touch him he melts. And not in a cute loving way, but in a puddle of mush way.

He does not run or make any sounds when you touch him, and his tail remains normal, but when you touch his head, he sinks into the ground in a sort of wave motion. Same for everywhere else on his body. The only exception being when he is laying flat on his back, you can rub his belly, but I suspect it is because he can not go lower into the floor.

Isn't that weird? I thought he slinky'd because he didn't like being touched, but he leaves his stomach exposed and enjoys belly rubs.

This is my 3rd cat and this is something I never experienced before and I am curious if it happens to others out there? Why does he collapse, and act like he has no bones when you touch him?
