Thought it was interesting to put in data from past mortgages and home values, and also some credit card quarterly and bank account values. This took a long time and I probably wouldn't recommend it unless your a nerd like me. Seeing this net worth line makes me really realize for most of my life the only reason I wasn't negative net worth was because property values went up so much during COVID, and I happened to own a house. When I bought it, it was like 40% of my gross pay and I was definitely house poor. I also strugged trememendously when I was younger with credit card debt.

I wish I'd found YNAB sooner so I could have more data like this. Student loans and private loans aren't represented here either. Maybe I'll backfill that data at some point. I started using YNAB in 2025, and immediately I can see where the line changes slope. Visibilty is everything. No more thoughtless buying. I check and then make an informed decision and my bank account isn't zero at the end of the week anymore. I'm a month ahead instead of a month behind.

PS, the huge jump in mid 2022 is buying another house and then selling the first one.
