Am I contributing to crow attacks on campus??
I work for a university. My daughter encouraged me to bring peanuts to campus (wildlife safe, in shell) so I could become the "crow guy". Sure enough, after months of feeding them and using a whistle* there are a few who fly to me when they see me and a few who come when I whistle.
Crow attacks on campus have been taking place long before I started as well as after. However, now that I'm the "crow guy" people want to blame me.
The director of HR was walking across campus as I was calling the crows and feeding them on my way to my office (FOUR CROWS AT ONCE!) She mentioned reports of crow attacks and asked "Maybe don't feed the crows?" I said "They follow me around and never attack me." Then she said that there would be signs going up around campus about not feeding the crows. My reply "I'll stop when I see the signs." She and I have gotten along very well over the years. She's a pleasant person. The mention of signs may have been a half-hearted joke.
So am I contributing to the crow problem?
*Notes: 1) I taught myself a different way of whistling just for the crows.
2) Even if the signs go up, I have a specific parking spot near the top of the university garage. When the crows see my truck, there are at least two crows that land on the next building watching me put out the peanuts.
