I am considering pursuing a career in Pathology, most likely Anatomical Pathology. Many colleagues have cautioned me against this though, saying Pathology will be one of the first specialties to be replaced by AI. I am curious as to what the broader medical community and any pathologists out there think!

In my mind, AI would likely be used to increase efficiency in sample processing and perhaps do preliminary readings, but the final reporting would still need to go through a human Pathologist. This would mean, however, that labs may need fewer Pathologists in the future, and this will negatively impact future job prospects.
