Will she recover?

My sweet 12 year old dachshund was diagnosed with a back injury. Nothing specific happened she just started showing signs that she was in pain and wasn’t getting up.

She still has mobility in her hind legs but is moving incredibly slow, is clearly in excruciating pain and spends the entire day laying down. Can carry her outside and still poop/pee very slowly.

She was prescribed pain meds 7 days ago with no improvement. After two more vet visits this week they finally upped her pain meds and prescribed steroids.

Can she recover? It is killing me seeing her in so much agony with no improvement and to see her so sad and not herself. I just want my girl back.

On Saturday my 12 year old dachshund suddenly wouldn’t get up. We finally enticed her with some Greek yogurt and she slowly got up from her bed. Not wobbly but just clearly in pain. Stopped using the stairs completely and just overall seemed very sad and not herself.

We went to the emergency vet where she passed all of her IVDD exams and they discharged us with pain meds.

Immediately upon returning home you can physically see her having a back spasm. She couldn’t get comfortable she was getting in and out of her bed every few seconds. Finally the pain medicine kicked in after about 90 minutes of this and she was able to relax.

Within 2 days she was acting more herself. But on the third day, today, she is back to being incredibly slow. Yelping when carried down the stairs. Getting into poop/pee position very slowly. Just clearly in pain even though she’s still on the pain meds.

Could this all just be a muscle strain? For her to be in so much pain?
