(SPOILERS AGOT) Why did Jon go through with it?
Probably didn’t need spoiler tag since it’s so early in the story, but I’ve always wondered why Jon went through with his vows to the watch. I get why he went, but why not turn around, or at least consider the option? From his first conversation with Tyrion on the road, he treats it like an inevitability. But unlike most, he chose to join if his own volition. He wasn’t a wanted criminal. Unlike Sam, his family almost certainly would’ve taken him back (sure, Caitlyn would have been upset, but Ned and Robb had the power there). He realized what the Watch was well before saying his words, and from what I understand, was under no obligation to stay until making the vow.
Pride, duty and stubbornness are all valid answers, but he never even seems to think about the possibility of leaving to reject it.
Always felt to me like a weird case of GRRM not giving it enough thought because the plot needed it, and it’s not like it’s something that’s unrealistic, per se. But maybe I’m missing something
