Let's be real, the majority of Anon-a-Miss fics are just disgruntled writers getting their frustrations out by cartoonishly demonizing all of Sunset's offenders and accusers and then making them suffer horribly, or just treating the entire comic completely black-and-white and acting like friendship was a lost cause because of one big mistake.
Amidst the sea of shallow, edgy fics, however, are the occasional refreshing take that has everyone in character, slim-to-no exaggerated anger, both parties' issues explored and addressed, and above all else, realistic forgiveness.
Here are some of my favourites:
Can You Say...Forgiveness? by theanonymousbrony
Sunset is prepared to go full edgy-fic mode and never speak to her friends again. Her saving grace comes in the form of Fred Rogers, who teaches her and the Rainbooms how to come back from a fractured friendship.
Role Reversal by SamRose
As far as alternate takes go, this one is really impressive. Instead of being broken by the ordeal, Sunset recognizes the perspective of her friends, but also that the power Anon-a-Miss has can't go unchecked. To prevent Anon-a-Miss from growing out of control while she investigates, she confesses to making the account and acts like she's a bully again.
Missed Trust by SojournSunrise (the source of the art in this post)
A simple take that fills in the gaps that the comic's ending left incredibly unfinished; Sunset writes to Princess Twilight after the incident expressing her concern for her friendship and how she's supposed to trust the Rainbooms again. Princess Twilight reminds her to look at their perspective and gives her the words she needs to keep her head up.
Share any refreshing-take fics that you enjoy, because I'd love to check them out.
