Preparing for ze studio (head question)
We play basically Nu Metal with a rapper + female singer/rapper, so we get a little extra ballady at times. Looking for the tightest pop/crack from my snare (I love II from Sleep Token, so that sound ideally) and a solid attack from the toms but also a tone that carries a little.
Going to switch out all my heads and actually going to put decent heads on the resos to try to get the best sound (Im thinking coated but not 100% sure). Also just bought a new Black Panther Hydro snare because I felt it was time for a change (and this was on sale). I dont wanna say upgrade because my Brass Master is amazing, its just old - been using a 14x8 (maybe 14 x 7.5) - this is a 13x7.
My question is - will the stock reso on the new snare be perfectly fine? Or should I switch it out with the rest? These aren't necessarily album tracks that we're recording, just singles to release - but we're recording 5 tracks in a legit studio so I want my sound to be as on point as possible.
I have a Yamaha Stage Custom (birch) and now a Mapex Black Panther Hydro (maple) snare. Thinking of doing maybe calftone on the reso toms (wanted to try coated resos and that's what's on the kick reso already) and probably Evans HD or SD dry for the snare batter and trying out Evans G2 for the tom batters (currently using Evans black chrome and do love the attack sound but they dont seem to carry much tone at all)
