I have been frequent in the shelters and rescues in my area. I occasionally end up watching my daughter’s dogs, but I’ve missed having a dog in the house and in my life. Like on a daily basis.
Typically, I look for doodles. I’ve had doodles and labs most of my life. Ideally, I prefer a low shedding, medium size adult dog. But one that doesn’t end up with high separation anxiety. I work from home about half the time. But there are times when I have to go to work, or I have community events. I’m usually able to take my dog homie with me if I have to travel, which is a bonus.
I am interested in a dog that is easy to train, able to be with other dogs (for when I dog-sit), might like to go on slow jog’s with me, in addition to walks, etc.
On my last visit to the local Humane Society, I saw a dog online that I thought looked kinda cute. But… When I got there, she was a barking machine. I assume part of it is that she was in the kennel area where all the other dogs are, and one starts barking, so they’ll start barking, but I tried to just stand there and let her catch my presence and it seemed like I made her nervous.
Trying to decide if I wanna go back and try to see her again, she seems to be some kind of a mix. It looks like she has some pitbull in her, I’m not sure what else. But wanted to reach out to the collective wisdom of some strangers on Reddit and see if anybody had some advice for me.
