Laneway house construction taking over my life
Hi all, looking for advice on how to approach this. My landlord started construction in my backyard a little over a month ago for construction of a laneway house. He gave me notice on the day off with no proper documentation. We generally have a good rapport and he is very responsive. He hadn’t increased our rent since I took over the lease a few years ago, but did increase rent starting this year, right before the construction. Landlord has the required permits.
He is aware that we (me and my two roommates) work from home. The construction has since scaled and the noise is unbearable during working hours, not to mention the dust that is taking over our lives. I have severe dust allergies and cannot enjoy our little patio at the back + have to keep our windows shut at all times.
Is it justifiable to ask for a rent reduction? How should I approach it?
