Silver Lining

The rising cost of oil will cause a lot of landscaping businesses to close down. I'm not writing this because the same mower/hedge trimmer/blower combo has passed over this empty patch of dirt next to my window for the past 30 minutes.

I had some wild blue phlox that needed a chelsea chop a few weeks ago and thought might as well dry the flowers and see what I can make with them since they smell really nice. So I put them in a paper bag and kinda forgot about them until now. Now they smell like maple syrup?? It's very strong but also doesn't smell bad. There's no mold and it's completely dry. I tried googling it but nothing was giving me answers. Does anyone know what's going on?
