I always like to check all the upcoming books of the year on Locus Mag permanent Forthcoming Books page, and this year I noticed that the amount of books published under the Tordotcom imprint dropped dramatically, with just four confirmed novellas so far, them being:
- HACHE PUEYO • Cabaret in Flames • Tordotcom, Mar 2026 (na, hc, eb)
- S.L. HUANG • The Language of Liars • Tordotcom, Apr 2026 (na, hc, eb)
- NGHI VO • A Long and Speaking Silence • Tordotcom, May 2026 (na, hc, eb)
- NAOMI KRITZER • Obstetrix • Tordotcom, Jun 2026 (na, hc, eb)
(It was not listed, but there is also And Side by Side They Wander by Molly Tanzer)
The only other books under the Tordotcom imprint are four collections and two anthologies. For comparison, I checked the same Locus Mag link on Wayback Machine from around the same time both last year and 2024, and they used to publish at least 10 novellas alone, without counting other formats.
I haven’t checked other years, but I do remember a certain consistency in the amount of novellas since 2018-ish. Has anyone eles noticed the same thing? Is something happening to the imprint?
