After two years of searching for an apartment that would accept my 2-bedroom CityFHEPS voucher, I can finally say I found one.
But it wasn’t easy. I had to file two Source of Income discrimination complaints with New York State after agents ghosted me the moment I mentioned I had a voucher.
The whole experience was honestly dehumanizing. I know I’m not the only one going through this.
About two months ago, I decided to try a different approach and created a profile on a renter-focused platform instead of chasing listings. At that point, I was willing to try anything.
Three weeks later, an agent reached out to me with a unit that actually matched my criteria. I was honestly shocked, I didn’t think anyone would call me.
I got approved last week, and paperwork started a few days ago.
Just wanted to share in case anyone else is going through it, don’t give up.
