So...weird situation. I finally got a position after almost a year of job searching consistently. Bit more context: I'm in the DMV area, so everyone has been scrambling over the past year. A normally very competitive market was so much worse in the past year because of federal layoffs.

Got an interview for niche inside my general field (health sciences). Interview is so unlike others I've done. Basically, they were pitching to me why I'm a perfect fit. They expedite onboarding and security clearance, etc.

I said to myself that I wouldn't look at other positions on the job listing board to curb wandering thoughts of fomo. I swear it was an accident, but when I was trying to get to my job's description during onboarding, I saw a similarly listed job because their ID numbers are extremely similar.

This new job was posted at some point after I accepted this current offer and is: 1) seemingly very similar, if not identical in responsibilities, 2) I meet the qualifications for skills and education, 3) pays TWICE as much, 4) with the same office.

I am extremely grateful for my current position, but I can't help but feel I'd regret not asking my supervisor about it with hopes of transferring to it. If not now, in the near future.

Am I crazy to approach her about it? I was thinking about framing my talk as: "I saw this posting. I am curious if this is a role that I can potentially build towards." Or something along those lines.

Btw, pay of current job is $75k. This other position starts at $140k. And the fellowship program these positions are part of literally emphasize mentorship and skillbuilding. I feel like the pay difference is too large to ignore.
