As a disabled person on Dialysis will a job hire me if three days out the week I can’t be at work?
I’m currently on dialysis three times a week — Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday — for about four hours each session from 11:00 AM to 3:15 PM. That is my assigned chair time, so there’s really no flexibility around it.
I previously tried home dialysis and did it for about a year, but it became extremely difficult because it took up so much of my wife’s time. She was trying to balance helping with my treatments while also working, and it became too overwhelming for her physically and emotionally.
At one point, I started questioning whether finishing school was even worth it because dialysis affects so much of my life. I’m also unable to receive a kidney transplant right now because I would need a heart transplant as well, and honestly, a lot about my situation scares me.
But then I started thinking differently. Since I’m already committed to being in this chair every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, maybe I should focus on finding a career that can work with my medical schedule instead of feeling like my life is on hold.
I’m trying to figure out if there are jobs out there that are understanding of situations like mine while still paying a decent income — ideally somewhere around the $70,000 per year range.
