Push/Pull and Forced Movement Direction [OC]
I am trying to understand interpretations of "away from you" vs. "straight away from you". I assume that if a push effect says "straight away" then character at C pushes the Enemy at E1 forward to the left (only option). However, I assume that if it just says "away" then the push just needs to move E1 a further distance away from C so could move to the left, directly forward, or even forward and to the right. Is that correct?
What about if you are large sized? Can the push direction be determined by any square you occupy or is it based on the center of the 4 squares you take up?
How about when pulling? If a pull effect says "pull the creature up to 10 feet toward yourself" does it simply need to move closer to you at each step and can you decide which boxes to move them through?
These interpretations can matter significantly on a control build using AoE effects.
