Thoughts on D-28 Tone
I’m not a real aficionado on acoustic guitars, but I’m a professional guitarist with a long history of recording. I acquired a 2016 D-28 in a trade last year. It’s in beautiful condition but the tone just seems really narrowed and doesn’t have the bass I would expect from a guitar of this quality. I’ve got a late 60s Alvarez d-28 clone that I traditionally have used for recording and this newer Martin just doesn’t sound as good.
From what I’ve read it probably just hasn’t been played much and needs to “open up”. Will this guitar really sound that much different if I commit to using it daily for the next year? Or is this just a characteristic of a D-28? My old larrivee om 04 had a fuller sound than this guitar which I’d not expect given the smaller body.
