Morning all.
Will be taking on the task of refreshing all of the suspension on my 1992 MX5 soon. I have a full set of white line bushes as well as new coil overs and brakes to go on the car, but it seems a waste to not paint/protect the control arms whilst I’m in there.
I’m not interested in proper paint or powder coating and making them look amazing, it’s going to be a track car/Sunday car for actual driving, not a garage/show queen. Just want to freshen them up and protect them from the elements (although it won’t see winter roads and likely not even wet ones unless I’m at a wet track day).
My thoughts are attack them with various wire brush attachments to get rid of the surface rust and grime as best as possible, then I’ve seen some Hammerite underbody seal with added waxoyl for £9.50 a can at Halfords. This should do the job right?
Keen to hear if anyone has done this type of thing and if there are any products that will make things much easier. I’ve already bought a bush extractor kit but I am toying with just paying to have the suspension arms and all the bolts etc sand blasted. Cost/time do need to be factored in. I haven’t got an unlimited budget and work full time with 2 kids so will be doing this over a couple of Sundays. Trying to keep things DIY and as simple as possible.
Any thoughts/experiences appreciated.
