How are you guys preparing for the HantaVirus?
There are no reported cases in my state as of yet, but you know what they say: “when you see it on the news, it’s already too late”. From what I’ve seen online we’re looking at a 35 to 50% mortality rate. I think that’ll go down a bit with a wider genetic cross section and actual medical infrastructure, but even 20% would be catastrophic for society. Can you imagine 20% of the people you interact with every day just disappearing? Or worse, getting visibly sicker and sicker and then disappearing?
I went out today and bought $150 in Canned goods, $80 in bullets, and another $80 or so in gas (between my car and two 5 gallon cans). I get paid again in a few days and plan to pick up more canned goods, water, and bullets. I don’t know if any antibiotics work against Hantavirus (after all it is a virus) but I’ll see if I can’t pick up some immune boosters or something. Masks and gloves at the very least.
I know a lot of people are scared right now. My mind keeps going to the movie “Contagion”, with Matt Damon, Jude Law, and Kate Winslet. The disease isn’t as severe as in that movie, but I think the parts where people just lose it and start stealing, rioting, and hurting other people is scary enough.
