I’ve got a 2018 F-150 5.0 that had a piston disintegrate on me earlier this year as you can see from the bore scope image. I’m planning to pull the engine myself and purchase a remanufactured engine from Ford. It had the typical oil consumption issue. The transmission also shifts rough but not concerningly rough.
Questions:
Are there other recommended manufacturers for remanufactured engines other than Ford? Do the remanufactured engines fix the excessive oil consumption issues?
While the engine is out should I address the transmissions shifting issue, and if so remanufactured transmission or purchase a rebuild kit? Is rebuilding the transmission myself a reasonable task having little mechanical experience other than small engines?
