I hv been working on a small tool for a bit now and honestly the hardest part isnt building its getting even the first few users

I tried posting on reddit and some social platforms but it either gets ignored or the wrong kind of responses

m not even trying to scale or anything yet, just want a few real people using it so i can understand if it’s actually useful

for those of you who’ve been through this..how did you get your first 5–10 users? anything that worked better than expected?

feels like i might be overthinking this or just doing the wrong things

so past couple weeks i’ve been talking to a few small business folks (mostly running stuff through instagram / whatsapp)

and one thing kept coming up again n again

they DO get enquiries… but everything is just sitting in DMs

no system
no tracking
just replying n hoping you remember later

like one guy literally told me he scrolls chats to figure out who he needs to follow up with 💀

and even ppl getting like 20–30 msgs a day were kinda struggling… not because volume is crazy, but because there’s zero structure

no idea:

  • who’s serious
  • who already replied
  • who needs follow-up

i started digging into this a bit more and tbh most tools feel either:

  • too heavy (full blown CRM for a small biz)
  • or too manual (notes, spreadsheets n all)

been messing around with a small setup myself to just make this less chaotic… still early but it made me realize how messy this problem actually is

curios tho:

how are you guys handling this?

  • just replying n moving on?
  • keeping notes somewhere?
  • or actually using something proper?

genuinely trying to understand if ppl even care about fixing this or just live with it lol

I thought this would be straightforward:

Someone messages → capture lead → follow up → done

But in reality it’s messy:

  • conversations happen across WhatsApp, Instagram, LinkedIn
  • replies get delayed or missed
  • context gets lost when you switch tools
  • nothing is actually tracked properly

I tried:
→ keeping notes
→ Google Sheets
→ pushing into a CRM

and somehow ended up spending more time managing data than actually talking to people

The weird part is it’s not that leads aren’t coming in
it’s that they quietly disappear in the process

Just trying to understand how others are handling this
