Is it normal for some two strand twists to completely unravel? (6 months old)

It is only at the front sides of my head and the very back perimeter. Those sides have always been pretty fragile even with my old traditional locs.

And some at the middle are perfectly normal from the root but unravelling at the lengths. Am I doing something wrong? I haven't gotten a retwist since January but I wash my hair every 1 or 2 weeks. I know its a long time without a retie but I'm planning on getting one this week when I find a good loctition

If I started my first retie with interlocking, is it too late to switch to comb coils?

So for context I have 218 microlocs. I started with twists on October 15 2025 and got my first retie in January

With my old traditional locs, I always did interlocking because I didnt know it would make my hair compact and I wanted mine thicker/fluffy

Anyways... in Jan, I did 2 point interlocking and its been like 4 months and I havent gotten a retie... I mist and separate my hair so it doesnt marry but the perimeter of my head has always been fragile (even with my old locs and without locs), I'm scared of thinning and breakage and I also dont want mine to be compact again.

I can't get retie's often—at least not until I get a stable job to afford it—so I do interlocking.

That being said, if I continue with 2-point interlocking, will my microlocs get thinner, and if I switch to comb coils, is it too late and how often would I need to maintain it?
