I’ve never made a post before so please forgive any errors. I’m an assistant manager at a retail store. I had an employee, we’ll call them J. They walked out of their shift the other day and ended up quitting. When my boss finally got ahold of them, they said they were quitting due to an addiction and wanted to focus on getting clean. If it was me who spoke to them directly, I had an avenue to offer a few resources, like getting on a leave of absence or the employee assistant programs and such. J never directly told me any of this, but I’m primarily the one who does documentation. I had to get together all of J’s documentation so I could process the resignation, and that’s when I saw the entry in the log about why J quit. I’m genuinely really proud of this employee, both while they were working for me and also for wanting to get better. My husband is in recovery so I know how important it can be to have someone on your side who cares. I really want the best for this person, and I’d like to make sure they have resources to help them with their journey. It is also important to note that J’s live-in partner works for me currently as well. Is there a way I could reach out to offer J resources? Or would it be completely inappropriate? TIA
