Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some clarity on ILR eligibility and would really appreciate any insights.

Here’s my situation:

  • I’ve been in the UK since 8 December 2021 on a Skilled Worker visa.
  • I was granted a Global Talent visa (Exceptional Promise) on 18 April 2026.
  • I’m currently on sick leave and receiving half pay.

I’ve heard that some people on the Global Talent route can apply for ILR after 3 years, and a colleague mentioned I might be eligible as early as June. However, I’m unsure whether my timeline actually qualifies. Based on the current rules and SWV route, I would be eligible by 6th November 2026

My main questions are:

  1. Based on this timeline, would I realistically be eligible to apply for ILR soon?
  2. Should I apply under the Global Talent route or stick with the Skilled Worker route?
  3. Does being on sick leave / half pay affect an ILR application (especially under Global Talent)?
  4. What is the earliest date that I can apply for?

I’m trying to figure out whether it’s worth applying now before any rule changes, or if I should wait.

Thanks in advance for any advice!
