Hi all,

I've got a 2006 Mazda MX-5 NC with the original fabric soft top. Recently I accidentally caused some scratches/scuff marks on the roof while vacuuming it — the vacuum nozzle dragged across the surface and left several linear marks running along the length of the roof.

Here's what makes this tricky to diagnose:

- The marks are NOT visible when looking straight down at the roof

- They only appear in strong directional/raking light (bright sun at a low angle)

- They are completely smooth to the touch — no texture difference whatsoever

- A black permanent marker applied to the marks made no difference, which rules out a colour/pigment issue

- Steam treatment had no effect

- Brushing (soft brush, with the grain) had no effect

My current theory is that the vacuum nozzle mechanically deformed the fabric weave, bending individual fibres in a different direction. The marks are essentially a micro-geometry issue — the disturbed fibres reflect raking light like tiny mirrors, regardless of colour.

I've ordered Renovo Fabric Soft Top Reviver + Cleaner + Ultra Proofer and I'll be applying the full system shortly, but based on my marker test I'm not optimistic it will fix the marks specifically

Has anyone experienced something similar? Were you able to fix it, and if so — how? Any advice welcome before I go ahead with the Renovo application.

Thanks
