I’m currently in DEP with the Air Force and supposed to ship July 14.

My recruiter had me list my top 10 jobs. After that, he sent me a list of jobs I want and qualified for and told me to with the jobs available this month.

Now I’ve been booked for 3E2X1 (Construction & Pavement Equipment), but this wasn’t on the job I want and qualify. I also don’t really see myself doing this kind of work.

I’m confused because I thought jobs were supposed to come from the list I submitted. I’m not sure if I misunderstood the process or if something went wrong on my recruiter’s side.

The job is already showing in the Aim High app, but I haven’t shipped yet.

My questions:
- Is this normal in the Air Force recruiting process?
- Can I still refuse or request a different job at this point?
- What are the consequences if I push back?
- Would switching to open general/mechanical be smarter?
- Is switching branches (like Navy) worth considering or is that overreacting?

I don’t want to make a bad long-term decision just because I rushed or misunderstood something. I already tried to reached out to my recruiter and still has no response.

Any advice from people who’ve been through this would help a lot.

Hey everyone, I’m in the Air Force DEP and I could use some advice.
My recruiter had me:
make a list of my top job interests

sent me an “enhanced job counseling” list of what I qualify for

then asked me to match my interests with the jobs available for the month

I sent back my list (mostly medical/admin jobs like 4N031, 4A031, 6F031, etc.).
Later on, I got booked for 3E2X1 (Construction & Pavement Equipment), which wasn’t one of the jobs I actually wanted.
Looking back, I think the job might have been on the “matched/qualified list,” but I didn’t realize that meant I could get booked for ANY job on that list. I thought my top preferences would be prioritized.
Also, I’m a green card holder (LPR), and my recruiter said job options are more limited because of that.
One thing I’m confused about:
Why did my recruiter have me match the jobs myself? Does having me match them basically mean I was agreeing to anything on that list?
Now I’m trying to decide:
take the job and ship (July 14)

or decline and wait / go open general

Has anyone been in a similar situation?
Is it worth waiting for a better job as an LPR?

Would you take 3E2X1 or hold out?

Appreciate any honest advice.
