Bit of rant and honestly looking for guidance on how to move forward.
I honestly love the Army. And no matter the situation I can find the good in it. But I’ve been on the struggle bus for a hot minute.
Was a mechanic, didn’t feel fulfilled and felt I was more a parts replacer/lube tech than an actual mechanic. So I reclassed, once again I find myself barely doing my job but in this instance it’s dangerous considering it’s aviation and if we’re not proficient people’s lives are under threat due to lack of proficiency. I know for a fact the next time I do my job it’s going to be mostly knocking the rust off. Then boom back to regular office duties.
I feel like the only people who consistently do their jobs are cooks and 42As. Speaking to others it seems this just a part of our culture. Talking with AF and Navy it seems they have a bigger focus on ensuring actual real world technical proficiency.
So I find myself considering another reclass. Flight packet was an option but with the new restructuring and the position aviation is I think I’m just gonna get my PPL and fly as a hobbyist.
I’d like to stay in but I just want to consistently do the job that’s listed on the brochure and be around people who want to be there as much as I do. For people in a similar boat, what has worked for you?
Gimme a Fish filet extra tartar and a large Mr Pibb.
