Surgery Day!

Marty had surgery today to remove an adenocarcinoma from his anal gland. He came through the surgery very well, still a little groggy but he should be wide awake in time for is 12th birthday tomorrow! Maybe this is not his first choice for a birthday present but we really want to keep him around for a long time! Happy birthday to my favorite superhero "Marty Man"!!

I'm looking for a good independent auto shop to work on a Subaru, preferably in the North towns. I've heard good things about Smukall's on Southpark but I thought I'd ask first. Thanks 👍

For those of you that have tried both what do you prefer? The Futomo or Valvomax style oil drain plugs? I can see pros and cons to each.

This is my boy Marty. He's almost 12 but he's the happiest boy ever! Everything was fine but on a recent check up this month he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and adenocarcinoma! I am broken by this!! This caught us my surprise, totally out of the blue. He has no symptoms and was perfectly healthy at is last checkup in the fall. Tomorrow we are going to have an ultrasound to see how bad the problem is. If you believe in a higher power I would appreciate any prayers you can send his way. He's the best boy and we would all appreciate it.

My head is just spinning so I'm trying to get things straightened out. My very healthy and energetic cavachon was just diagnosed with an adenocarcinoma tumor in his anal sac. We're getting an ultrasound tomorrow to check and see if it's only in the tumor. While they were doing blood work they found his CREA level was high (2.7 mg/dl) as well as BUN being elevated (48 mg/dl). We were surprised because these levels were normal in July 2025 when he last had blood work. The vet said this is at the end of CKD stage 2 and getting into stage 3. Our vet talks like we may not want to treat the adenocarcinoma because the CKD and may want to control with diet and see how it shakes out but they also said the cancer is aggressive and not treating it only has a life expectancy of 3-6 months! Not a lot of positive options here! I'm a retired engineer so I'm going down the rabbit hole and I found that the tumor can cause increased calcium levels (he was near normal-high) and that removing the tumor can lower the calcium levels and give the kidneys some relief! What do I do first here? 😔

Edit: forgot to mention he gets a homemade dog food of lean chicken, sweet potatoes, peas and a little rice. And the vet put him on Benazepril to help his kidneys and he gets glucosamine chews for his joints.
